Former Presidential Candidate Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim has confidently announced that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is ready for a national revival, asserting, “The PDP will rise again.”
During a high-level meeting with the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) at the party’s Wadata Plaza headquarters in Abuja, Dr. Hashim emphasized that despite past challenges, internal divisions, and defections, the PDP remains the only truly national party capable of rescuing Nigeria by 2027.
“Since its inception in 1998, the PDP has maintained a significant presence in virtually every polling unit across the country,” Hashim stated. “This legacy is still strong, and it is this national reach that makes the PDP the only credible alternative to the APC.”
He dismissed concerns about the party’s declining influence, asserting that the PDP’s grassroots support remains intact, even with some elected officials having defected due to pressure or political coercion.
“Do not be discouraged by those who have left. The real strength of any party lies not in a few powerful individuals but in its people, and the people are still with the PDP,” he affirmed.
Hashim also praised Ambassador Umaru Damagun, the Acting National Chairman of the PDP, for his steady leadership during challenging times. “The wisdom and calm with which Ambassador Damagun has guided this party are commendable. He has kept the party intact when others sought to tear it apart,” he added.
Looking ahead to the 2027 presidential race, Dr. Hashim urged the party to present a credible, visionary candidate who will prioritize national security, economic recovery, and social justice.
“Nigerians are in search of a new kind of leadership. The PDP must provide that hope. With unity, discipline, and courage, the PDP will rise again—not just to win elections but to rebuild Nigeria.”
Earlier that day, the former Presidential Candidate, who was the party’s first elected Deputy National Publicity Secretary, participated in a meeting of the party’s founders held at the NAF Centre in Kado, Abuja.
Dr. Gbenga Hashim’s presence at this high-profile meeting confirms his official return to the party he helped establish. Sources indicate that although the Global Energy Executive had rejoined the PDP some time ago, he had deliberately kept his return low-profile until now.
