ADC Reacts to Tinubu Endorsement by Adeleke and Oyinlola

The political atmosphere in Osun State became heated on Tuesday as Governor Ademola Adeleke, along with former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola and key leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), publicly endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid for 2027.

This decision was announced in a communiqué following a significant stakeholders’ meeting, which also reaffirmed Adeleke’s commitment to remain in the PDP, putting to rest rumors of a potential defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

However, this development faced intense criticism from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which accused Adeleke of political indecision and asserted that his support for Tinubu would not safeguard him from defeat in the upcoming Osun governorship election.

In response, Charles Omidiji, the Osun State chairman of the ADC, stated that Adeleke’s choice not to join the APC may not prevent him from losing. He declared that the ADC, led by ex-Governor Rauf Aregbesola as its Interim National Secretary, would win the next Osun governorship election. “If he doesn’t join the APC, it will only lessen the margin of his loss at the polls. Had he defected, it would have signified the end of both the APC and PDP in Osun. Regardless of what happens, ADC will produce the next Osun governor,” he remarked.

The communiqué provided insight into Adeleke’s decision to forgo joining the APC, despite widespread speculation. It indicated that a majority of APC members in Osun State opposed the idea of Adeleke’s defection, which had not originated from the governor himself. The statement also mentioned that some APC leaders, motivated by personal interests, had shown hostility and resentment toward Governor Adeleke, even resorting to name-calling on social media and national television.
