ADEBUTU MOURNS DR. DOYIN OKUPE

The 2023 gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Hon. (Dr) Oladipupo Adebutu, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Dr Doyin Okupe, a veteran politician, medical doctor, and statesman whose career spanned several decades in Nigeria’s public space.

In a statement released by his media aide, Afolabi Orekoya, today, Friday, March 7, 2025, Adebutu described Okupe’s demise as a significant loss to Ogun State and the nation at large. He noted that Okupe was a fearless and articulate political figure whose influence shaped political communication and governance in Nigeria.

Adebutu highlighted Okupe’s remarkable journey, from his early days as a physician and co-founder of the Royal Cross Medical Centre to his transition into politics, where he played key advisory roles in different administrations. As a spokesperson and media strategist, Okupe served under Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, effectively managing public affairs and national discourse. His sharp wit, unwavering loyalty, and commitment to democratic ideals distinguished him in Nigeria’s political landscape.

Reflecting on his personal interactions with Okupe, Adebutu described him as a man of immense knowledge and courage, who never hesitated to stand for what he believed in. He acknowledged Okupe’s contributions to Ogun State and the country, emphasizing that his passing marks the end of a notable career in Nigerian public life, spanning both medical and political fields.

While extending his deepest condolences to the Okupe family, Adebutu urged them to take solace in the impactful life he lived. He prayed for the peaceful repose of Okupe’s soul and asked God to grant his loved ones the strength to bear this painful loss.
