The Minister of Aviation rushed to side with Ibom Air, declared a “ban” on the victim, and endorsed her rushed arraignment before any credible investigation.
This isn’t leadership – it’s prejudice.
This isn’t justice – it’s double jeopardy (Section 36(9), 1999 Constitution).
WHAT HAPPENED
On August 10, 2025, a Nigerian woman endured the following inside an Ibom Air aircraft & at the airport:
Blocked from exiting the plane without lawful cause.
Physically assaulted & manhandled in public.
Stripped and humiliated -her dignity violated.
Detained without due process.
Arraigned in public disgrace without legal counsel.
This is not “aviation protocol” – this is jungle justice at 35,000 feet.
THE LAW IS CLEAR
Right to Dignity : Sec. 34(1) Constitution, Art. 5 African Charter
Right to Liberty: Sec. 35 Constitution
Right to Fair Hearing – Section. 36 Constitution
Gender-Based Violence – VAPP Act, Secs. 14 & 15
Civil Aviation Obligations – Civil Aviation Act 2022 & NCAA Regulations
Supreme Court in A.G. Lagos v. Keita (2016): Any unlawful restraint is actionable.
Supreme Court in Ibrahim v. COP (2014): You have a right to resist false imprisonment.
WHO IS LIABLE?
Ibom Air – for its crew’s unlawful acts.
The Minister: for prejudicial, unconstitutional interference.
Security operatives – for assault & unlawful detention.
WE DEMAND:
Immediate release & medical check-up of the victim.
2- Public apology from Ibom Air & relevant agencies.
3-Not less than ₦250M compensation for physical, emotional & reputational damage.
4- Prosecution of all culpable staff.
5- NCAA sanctions against Ibom Air.
6- Presidential Task Force on Passenger Rights.
FINAL WORD
A customer is KING. Ibom Air treated one like trash, with state backing.
This brutality is a national disgrace.
We must send a loud, clear message: In Nigeria, the skies are ruled by LAW, not LAWLESSNESS.
Your Excellency, Nigerians are watching. Justice must not just be done -it must be seen to be done.
