
Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, has won the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket, defeating Mali in the final held at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. This victory marks their fifth consecutive title, making Nigeria the first country to achieve this milestone, and extends their unbeaten streak in the tournament to a decade.
The final was competitive, with Mali leading 26–21 at the end of the first quarter. However, D’Tigress rallied to equalize at 41–41 by halftime and took control in the second half, ultimately winning by 14 points.
President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu congratulated the team, with Tinubu praising their performance on social media: “Superb performance to become 5x consecutive Champions of Africa. Well done, Coach Rena and the team. You have made Nigeria proud.”
