The Oyo State government has announced plans to implement a digital address system for street and house numbering across the state.
Commissioner for Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, Mr. Williams Akin Funmilayo, revealed the initiative during a meeting with Smart City Development Konsult Limited. This project is part of Governor Seyi Makinde’s Omititun 2.0 Sustainable Development Goals, fulfilling a key promise.
Mr. Akin-Funmilayo noted that the presentation is a preliminary step before submitting it to the Executive Council. He explained that implementing this system will improve building identification and enhance emergency responses, reducing delays in critical situations.
“House numbering is essential for locating buildings quickly, which is vital during emergencies.” He emphasized the commitment to start this process despite the administration having less than two years left in office. Both he and the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning have discussed the initiative with the Governor, who has expressed his support.
