The Oyo State Government has scheduled the movement of the Oloolu Masquerade across selected areas in Ibadan from Monday, July 28, to Thursday, July 31, 2025.
According to Dr. Wasiu Olatunbosun, Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, the Oloolu Masquerade is one of the most significant Egungun in Ibadan and holds deep cultural importance. Traditionally, it is forbidden for women to see the Oloolu, except for triplet-born women who are believed to receive special blessings.
Unlike other masquerades, the Oloolu does not follow a fixed route; its movement is spiritually guided. Notable areas expected to be visited include Aafin Olubadan, Beere, Oje, and Ore Meji, among others.
The government urges residents, especially women, to respect the festival’s cultural significance and cooperate with local authorities during the proceedings. The Commissioner thanks the public for their ongoing support as they celebrate this important aspect of Ibadan’s heritage.
