Residents of Sowo Village protest after a fatal crash kills four pupils.

 

Angry residents of Sowo Village blocked the Abeokuta–Sagamu Expressway to protest the deaths of four pupils from Iddo Primary School, Kobape, Ogun State, in a road accident that occurred on Wednesday. This tragic event happened just 48 hours after a motorcyclist and his passenger were also killed at the Siun junction on the same expressway.

Eyewitnesses reported that some youths attempted to lynch the driver of the vehicle involved, but he was rescued by security operatives.

Babatunde Akinbiyi, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, confirmed the incident in a telephone conversation with our correspondent on Wednesday. He stated that the accident occurred when a Toyota Corolla with the number plate KSF 579 crashed into the pupils as they were returning from school, killing four of them on the spot. The pupils were subsequently taken to the General Hospital in Ijaiye, where they were pronounced dead.
