Veteran Nigerian actor Yemi Solade confidently asserts that he is senior to Pete Edochie in the movie industry, despite Edochie’s age. In a recent video on social media, Solade firmly refuted claims that another sector of the Nigerian film industry founded Nollywood, emphasizing that the Yoruba film industry’s lack of early documentation does not diminish its significance.
“I am senior to Pete Edochie; although he is older, I began my acting career before him in 1977 at the age of 17, making me Nigeria’s youngest actor. I have proudly dedicated 48 years to this industry. It was Ade Ajiboye, known as ‘Big Abass,’ who first produced a home video in Nigeria. Others may claim to have started Nollywood for media attention, but the Yoruba sector was leading the way long before proper documentation became the norm.”
