Former Vice-President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, has refuted claims that he received money from the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for his 2023 election campaign. This statement was issued by the Atiku Media Office in Abuja on Thursday.
Atiku’s media aide, Paul Ibe, dismissed reports suggesting that Sanwo-Olu provided funds to the former vice president for his campaign. Atiku, who was the presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections, characterized these insinuations as false and described them as “kindergarten propaganda.”
Ibe addressed claims that Sanwo-Olu made funds, allegedly belonging to Lagos State, available to Atiku. He pointed out that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was mentioned in relation to an investigation into the matter.
Describing the allegations as “a blatant lie from the pit of hell,” Ibe called them “contrived political hogwash” and a futile effort to tarnish Atiku’s reputation for political gain. He emphasized that Atiku does not know Sanwo-Olu and has never met him.
He questioned how it would be possible for Atiku, who has no connection to Sanwo-Olu, to have engaged in a financial transaction with him, especially during a presidential election where Atiku was a candidate.
Ibe also urged the EFCC to make the results of its alleged investigation public and called for an immediate end to what he termed a “voyage of misadventure” and a campaign of calumny against Atiku’s character.
