The member representing Abeokuta South Constituency 1 in the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Lukmon Atobatele, has commissioned the somorin street road in Oke Abetu area of Abeokuta, the state capital.
The lawmaker also empowered about 50 of his constituents with cash incentives for business at the event held on Friday.
Speaking with newsmen at the event, Atobatele appealed to the state government to consider fixing inner roads in the state, saying that the roads contributes majorly to community lives.
“Government should keep doing things like this and emulate what I am doing. The majority of the major roads are okay but we have issues with the inner roads.
“If others choose to do street roads too it would be of benefit to the people. Well meaning people should also come out and stop shying away from the truth. If you know you have the capacity to help the people you should do so.
“Everyone knows what is happening in the country today, we know that things are not really easy for Nigerians so we shouldn’t wait for the government, we can help ourselves, ” he added.
He said he spent his personal hard earned money on the project as against insinuations from some quarters that the concrete road is part of his constituency projects.
Atobatele however appealed to other stakeholders to contribute their quota in nation building, adding that government cannot alleviate the suffering of the citizens alone.
He emphasized that the choice of the road is neccesitated to assist the community in accessing the only hospital feeding the area and it’s environ.
“Government cannot alleviate the sufferings of the masses alone, so I called on well-meaning members in the society to contribute their quota through philanthropic gesture.
In his remark the hospital’s CEO, Fadeyi Olatunbosun, stated that the other side of the road was constructed during the world bank project, but stopped midway, enjoining the government to see to the competition of the remaining 300 meters to enable easy access.
